This Christmas, residents of Payatas received a 2 for 1 gift – learning about the perils of dengue and bottles of mosquito repellent to help them prevent this disease.

Volunteers from The MEALenium Project and Nature Guard taught the Payatas community last December 20 about dengue and tips on how to prevent catching it. As of 2017, the Department of Health (DOH) Epidemiology Bureau has recorded over 36,000 cases of dengue (, with 207 deaths.

While majority of the cases were recorded in the Visayas region, 12.2% of the cases came from the National Capital Region. There are immunizations programs against dengue in Metro Manila, however they are school-based. The out-of-school youth and families, which belong to the most vulnerable segments, remain unprotected or unprepared.

This is why Nature Guard, together with its volunteers visited the families from (more specific area), Payatas to give the gift of learning to these mothers, fathers, and their children. They used DOH’s 4S Laban Sa Dengue as the manual for instruction. This include searching and destroying the places where mosquitos can lay eggs and reproduce, doing self-protection measures, seeking early consultation on the onset of symptoms, and saying no to indiscriminate fogging.

And as a Holiday gift, The MEALenium Project also distributed over 200 bottles of Nature Guard Mosquito Repellent to the residents of Payatas. This is actually the second year that Nature Guard donated to these families to ensure that they are safe from mosquito bites this holiday season.

Nature Guard anti-mosquito spray is a safe and effective, non-DEET insect repellent that provides 6 up to 8 hours of protection against Dengue and Zika mosquitoes.

All bottles are formulated with IR3535 ®, a tested insect repellent that has been used in Europe for over 3 decades with excellent safety records. Nature Guard’s active ingredient is approved by the World Health Organization as a safe and effective insect repellent.

Nature Guard wants more families to receive the gift of safety from mosquito bites this Christmas. They have pledged that for every 2 bottles of Nature Guard anti-mosquito spray purchased, 1 bottle will be given for FREE to a family in Payatas. Nature Guard is available at their online store.
